Nuclear Medicine is Molecular Imaging!
Hossein Jadvar, MD, PhD, MPH, MBA, FACNM, FACNP The Mission of the Los Angeles Radiological Society has always been to bring imaging experts and important imaging topics to the imaging specialists of Southern California, keeping them at the forefront of imaging knowledge. In keeping with this tradition, the Nuclear Medicine Section of LARS is pleased to offer this one-day concise, comprehensive program that includes topics on recent advancements in radioimmunotherapy, multi-modality imaging, new frontiers in molecular imaging, and topics on reimbursement and radiation exposure in imaging -- providing not only education, but also aiding the attendee to meet requirements toward Maintenance of Certification (MOC). Molecular imaging is emerging as an important research tool in the way that we study cellular and molecular events in vivo, and it is expected to lead radiology into the forefront of molecular and clinical medicine. Molecular imaging is the product of concurrent advances in molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, computing, and imaging science. It will pave the way in the evolution from the current, nonspecific imaging methods toward patient-specific imaging evaluation based on morphologic, physiologic, molecular, and genetic markers of disease. Nuclear medicine has taken a leading role in this exciting endeavor since it inherently has had and will continue to have its foundation on molecular medicine. Nuclear medicine may have faced some challenges in the past but now is one of the most exciting and growing branches of medical imaging. We are now witnessing unprecedented growth and dissemination of combined SPECT-CT, PET-CT, and PET-MRI imaging systems; development of new biologically-based radiotracers for imaging and radiopharmaceuticals for radioimmunotherapy, recent changes and improvements in post-graduate training duration and content, and growing interest among young physicians and physician-scientists in pursuing careers in nuclear medicine. |

CMEThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Institute for Medical quality and the California Medical Association's CME Accreditation Standards (IMQ/CMA) through the Joint Sponsorship of The Los Angeles Radiological Society (LARS) and The Pacific Southwest Chapter, Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM). LARS is accredited by the IMQ/CMA to provide continuing medical education for physicians. LARS takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity. LARS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education. VOICE Credit has been applied for from the SNMTS. SCOPE Credit is available. VOICE and SCOPE credits will be listed as soon as they have been determined. This program has been planned in accordance with the ACCME Essential Areas and Elements and Accreditation Policies. Further, this activity is in compliance with the California Legislature and ACCME definitions of CME Content, and California Assembly Bill 1195 which requires CME activities with patient care components to include curriculum in the subjects of cultural and linguistic competency. LARS accepts responsibility for validating the clinical content of this CME activity. |
